The Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) has launched a commemorative book to celebrate the contributions of the former public daily rated union – the Amalgamated Union of Public Daily Rated Workers (AUPDRW).

The book, called Reflections, pays tribute to the leaders and members of AUPDRW. From its formation in 1992 to its merger with the AUPE in 2021, Reflections is a collection of messages and images the union has compiled over its 29 years of operation.

The book was unveiled by Minister-in-charge of the Public Service Chan Chun Sing, AUPE General Secretary Sanjeev Tiwari and NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng on 23 September 2022 at AUPE’s 63rd Anniversary Dinner held at Orchard Hotel.

They were also joined by former AUPDRW President Subari Samuri and former AUPDRW General Secretary Raman Kathavarayan.

Mr Sanjeev said that AUPE is proud to pay tribute to the former union and its members.

He said: “The spirit and memories of AUPDRW will continue to live on in AUPE, and we will continue the good work of being a strong support for all our members in advocating for better prospects, progression, and well-being. We will continue working closely with our tripartite partners to improve our public officers’ lives and advance their welfare.”

Additionally, Mr Ng said NTUC would continue walking by the side of all workers, including those in the public service, to ensure their voices are heard.

“We will continue to champion their interests and ensure that they continue to progress and prosper, as Every Worker Matters. Through Reflections, we hope to pay tribute to all AUPDRW leaders for their years of dedication and the workers for their contributions to Singapore,” he said.

About Reflections

Reflections chronicles the journey of AUPDRW and celebrates its many milestones that went towards bettering the lives of the public daily rated workers.

From its inception to its dissolution, AUPDRW played a vital role in championing and improving its members’ wages, welfare and work prospects.

Through the union’s efforts and that of its management partners within the public service, all the remaining public daily rated workers have since been converted to monthly rated employees.

The book also shows how AUPDRW provided financial assistance to its members with school-going children through its Education and Training Fund while simultaneously advocating training and lifelong learning.

There are also heartfelt messages and dedications penned by President Halimah Yacob, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam, as well as NTUC leaders and council members of AUPDRW.
